Farm Household Allowance

The Farm Household Allowance (FHA) program provides assistance to farming families experiencing financial hardship with a package of assistance that includes:

  • up to four years of fortnightly income support (in every 10 year period)
  • additional benefits to assist with health and living costs during periods of financial stress
  • a professional Farm Financial Assessment (FFA) of the farm business (worth up to $1,500)
  • a Financial Improvement Agreement (FIA) – with funding to help develop skills, access training and pay for professional advice
  • regular support of a Farm Household Case Officer who can work in conjunction with your Rural Financial Counsellor

Eligibility criteria includes

  • being at least 16 years of age and an Australian citizen or permanent residence
  • have (or be the partner of someone who has a  right or interest in land and use it for a farm enterprise
  • have significant commercial purpose and contribute a significant part of your labour and capital to the farm enterprise
  • meet Services Australia net assets and income tests
